I did this and I am having the same issue. When I use the controller and hit any controller button the game crashes. I also noticed the game is not seeing the controller as well.

I just notice in Steam Big Picture my controller was unregistered. I selected Xbox Configuration support and registered my controller and now it is working. Hope that helps.

Hello. I had the problem with xbox(usb) controller. In my case i use «speedlink xeos gamepad».
The solution that i found for me:
1. Disconect usb keyboard.
2. Connect usb gamepad
3. Reboot PC
4. Using mouse run the game.
After this steps gamepad works without any problem.
Hope this info can help someone. brave the sun

p.s. Interesting note. If i connect keyboard in game than gamepad stop work.

Like many people I had the problem of my xbox controller not being detected by Dark Souls remastered and spent hours looking over the internet trying to fix it, I tried every solution here and many more and I couldnt get it to work.

BUT I did finally figure out a solution that worked for me. Its kind of convoluted.

1 .Make sure your xbox controller is plugged in/recognized by steam
2. go to steam/settings/controller/guide button chord configuration
3. click on one of your controller buttons (I used right bumper) and set it to use magnify (the magnifying glass icon). The button should now say toggle magnifier.
4. Hold down the xbox button in the middle of your controller and press whatever button you mapped to make sure its working (it should magnify your screen). Press it again to go back to normal
5. Start Dark souls remastered and your controller should now be detected by the game (You might have to use the magnify feature in game once, xbox button + button you mapped magnify to)

Strangely this is what made the game detect my controller when nothing else would

Also I dont know if other controllers have a guide button like the xbox but if they do that is the button you need to use. Steam detects the PS controller so the playstation button might work

Though considering the wide variety of solutions that some people need to go through to get it to work there are some huge problems with how the game handles controllers

1. Get the drivers for the controller from the official Logitech website. http://www.logitech.com/en-us/support/264

2. Install them.
3. Open the Logitech Profiler program.
4. Click on «Select a Game» and then «Create New Game Profile»
5. Label it however you like, and then select the Dark Souls 2.exe from the Steam folder (probably C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steamapps\Common\Dark Souls II\Game\)
6. Once you have created it, you can change setup of your controller. The best one I found is this one. The buttons on the left are the ones on your controller. The ones on the right are what you have to change them to in the Profiler program.
Button 1 -> Button 3
Button 2 -> Button 1
Button 3 -> Space
Button 5 -> Y
Button 6 -> G
Button 7 -> Button 5
Button 8 -> Button 6
Button 9 -> Button 7
Button 10 -> Button 8

To change the right analog stick to function as the camera, you have to click Right Stick X-Axis > Select Axis Assignment > New Axis Assignment > Edit > New Keystroke. Then, make one for I, J, K, and L, since that’s the keyboard keys that DS2 uses to move the camera. Map them to the X and Y axis of the right analog stick, and then launch the game through the Profiler.

I resolved that problem for me 5 minutes ago lol.

But the wiki is not complete, you should also to do this:
— after you install and configure x360ce, open x360ce.ini
— search for [InputHook]
— add that line after HookMode=1 : HookCOM=1
the final result should be

— save the file and play

That happens because Dark Souls with that version of x360ce needs that particular option as the x360ce wiki tells https://code.google.com/p/x360ce/wiki/GameCompatibilityList

Now I modify the wiki, I hope you solve the problem. Let me know.

One thing: when I move the right thumb down, it activates the left trigger, how can I fix this?

This worked for me.

use the motioninjoy drivers instead of the x360 ones http://www.motioninjoy.com/ just follow the instructions and it will automaticly load the drivers and is basicly plug and play

the only reason people report this as malware, is because if you uninstall it will leave some things unchanged and leave registery entries and DLL files on your pc. nothing too drastic and things you can easly remove manually. if you follow the instuctions and do as your told, this program is a godsend.

also my xbox360 works perfectly fine with motioninjoy and is just 1 click and the whole thing is setup and ready to play. only downside is uninstalling require some more steps

also if u dont like motioninjoy u use XInput Wrapper, why using outdated and faulty methods that require a diffrent settings per game

MotioninJoy drives your Playstation 3 controller (Sixaxis or Dualshock 3) on windows. By this way your;Sixaxis or Dualshock 3 as a general game controller with motion sensor and emulate Xbox 360 controller.

The purpose of Motionjoy is to emulate Xinput for Playstation controllers. Xinput is an API defined by Microsoft for their X360 controllers. So if you have X360 controller — nothing more is needed.* What X360ce does it is emulate Xinput for any Direct Input controller it can detect — so in theory it does far more than Motionjoy, which (according to what Motionjoy page states) is limited only to DualShock 3 and Sixaxis controllers.

* — Unless you didn’t do a homework and bought wireless X360 controller — then you need an adapter.

lol basicly your saying motioninjoy emulates xinput for playstation, and x360c emulates xinput for any gamepad. then can u explain why my ps3/xbox360/pcgamepad are all working fine with on motioninjoy, with wireless ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and without remapping all the keys. lol i can even connect my ps2 and ps1 controller with a playstation to usb adapter using motioninjoy. dont have a normal xbox controller anymore, so dident test that. and im still looking to buy a gamecube to pc adapter altough i doubt that it will work with dark souls 😛

Your Xbox 360 controller is certainly not working with MotionJoy. If anything it ignores it — it would be really dumb if it did use the old DirectInput calls to emulate Xinput through MotionJoy for X360 controllers. That would render the controller unable to emulate vibrations.

Also — what’s the logic of emulating Xinput for a controller that already is using Xinput?

Такая беда, друзья когда включаю игру без геймпада все хорошо камера не крутиться и смотрит туда,куда наводиш курсор мыши, а с геймпадом Oklick gp-315m, которых у меня 2-шт я пробовал на обоих! Одно и тоже! Когда включаеш кнопку посередине, которая по скрину горит зеленым цветом, она становиться красной и камера в игре начинаеться сама по себе вращаться вокруг персонажа, отключаеш кнопку, все хорошо, да только камера смотрит вверх и нехочет ставиться туда, куда ей говорят помогите пожалуйста друзья, очень уж хочеться поиграться.
PS: У меня WIn8, когда я ее купил у меня был Win7, и работало все просто прекрасно «камера не вертелась по нажатию кнопки, и камера не смотрела вверх»,кстати когда делаеш инверсию в игре, камера смотрит вниз 🙂
Пробовал ставить fix-ы, патчи, отключать в игре все настройки о камере. Не помогло!

сердечки меняем на «yadi . sk» без пробелов и ковычек!

просто DS2 отлично игрался с геймпадом и никаких проблем не было, после обновы ни один геймпад (Logitech F710, 2 иксбоксовских беспроводных и defender scorpio rs3) не видит. пробовал все что писали здесь в обсуждениях — не помогло.

я же сказал что перепробовал все предыдущие ответы на форуме, в том числе и англоязычным. этот метод тоже не помог(

и попробуй снести дрова геймпада =, он определится как стандартный
