I did this and I am having the same issue. When I use the controller and hit any controller button the game crashes. I also noticed the game is not seeing the controller as well.
I just notice in Steam Big Picture my controller was unregistered. I selected Xbox Configuration support and registered my controller and now it is working. Hope that helps.
Hello. I had the problem with xbox(usb) controller. In my case i use «speedlink xeos gamepad».
The solution that i found for me:
1. Disconect usb keyboard.
2. Connect usb gamepad
3. Reboot PC
4. Using mouse run the game.
After this steps gamepad works without any problem.

p.s. Interesting note. If i connect keyboard in game than gamepad stop work.

Like many people I had the problem of my xbox controller not being detected by Dark Souls remastered and spent hours looking over the internet trying to fix it, I tried every solution here and many more and I couldnt get it to work.
BUT I did finally figure out a solution that worked for me. Its kind of convoluted.
1 .Make sure your xbox controller is plugged in/recognized by steam
2. go to steam/settings/controller/guide button chord configuration
3. click on one of your controller buttons (I used right bumper) and set it to use magnify (the magnifying glass icon). The button should now say toggle magnifier.
4. Hold down the xbox button in the middle of your controller and press whatever button you mapped to make sure its working (it should magnify your screen). Press it again to go back to normal
5. Start Dark souls remastered and your controller should now be detected by the game (You might have to use the magnify feature in game once, xbox button + button you mapped magnify to)
Strangely this is what made the game detect my controller when nothing else would
Also I dont know if other controllers have a guide button like the xbox but if they do that is the button you need to use. Steam detects the PS controller so the playstation button might work
Though considering the wide variety of solutions that some people need to go through to get it to work there are some huge problems with how the game handles controllers

OK For people using Dark Souls Remastered having problems with Xbox one controller With Windows 10 do the following
Go to Microsoft app Store Download Xbox Accessories App its Free
Connect your controller by USB or Blue Tooth (make sure Blue Tooth is on PC)
Open Xbox Accessories App and let it find your controller.
After that launch Dark Souls Remastered everything should work fine.
If still having problems you could try going into compatibility mode windows 8 and tick box open as Administrator.
Deleting the xinput1_3.dll inside the game folder \Steam\steamapps\common\DARK SOULS REMASTERED did the job for me.

этот эмулятор геймпада xbox360, для тех у кого не работают некоторые кнопки, и обзор камерой.
1.Кидаете файлы из архива, в Darksouls 2\game
2.Запускаете x360ce, жмете «yes» потом next и finish.
3.переназначаете кнопки
4.во вкладке «advanced» снимаем галочку с «pass Through».
Вроде все, у меня все заработало и у вас должно заработать.
Игра сама автоматически определяет геймпад и биндит на него определенные действия,а в настройках изменить можно только для клавы. Так что если даде переназначим кнопки будет выполняться 2 действия
полезная вещь, автору мерси
Все получилось, 4 пункт я не использовал!

А как поменять местами d-pad и правый стик? А то на стик смена предметов а на пад бег.

Как в Dark Souls 2 настроить управления для геймпада?
Игра распознает геймпад, но второй стик в игре почему-то отвечает за ближний бой и при этом никак нельзя поворачивать камеру. В управление нет параметра отвечающего за поворот камеры, а все остальные параметры настраиваются только из предложенных вариантов.
Raiman Origins распознавал геймпад и я удобно подстраивал управление под себя.
P.S. задать отдельные кнопки, но только на клаве.

На клаво мыши играть легче. Почему? Камера так не буянит как на геймпаде ред.
Дарк солс 2? клаво мышь? Шутка? учитывая раскладку управления и эмуляцию стика геймпада. Я лучше в Квейк или КС пойду с геймпадом, чем ДС 2 на клаво мыши
Сильно отличается управление? 3 на клава мыше проходил, все на 2 настраиваюсь
В 3м и первом ремастред управление с клавомыши сносное, вполне себе норм, но я бы предпочел геймпад. Во втором дс мышь эмулирует стик геймпада, из-за чего чувствуется вязкость во вращение камеры. Во всех нормальных играх клавиша действия это F либо E, в ДС 2 это шифт+левый клик, ну это вообще не адекватно, когда таким методом нужно было открыть дверь, я воткнул геймпад и стал играть с нормальным управлением.
Я купил на распродаже последней DS2 школяра, чтобы закрыть последний DS, но что я увидел после стартового синематика это просто пиздец. Все наслышаны про отвратное управление на клавомыши, про отвратную графику, но блять, когда я зашел и увидел все это сам, это еще хуже раза в три, чем то, что ты слышал. Я так и не смог сохранить свои настройки в управлении, чтобы не делал. Первый уровень — это просто геймдизайнерское недоразумение. Графика начала нулевых.
Ну там и не нужна быстрая камера. Боссы в ДС 2 это медленное нечто, которое не летает по всей карте. ред.

Лол. Я прошел ДС3. Ну типо там же космическая разница в скорости т.к. текущее поколение консолей.

Он там ужасно работает, по крайне мере с PS4 геймпадом.
А че ужасного? биг пикчур включил, воткнул по юсб Дуалшок 4, все робыт стабильно и отзывчиво. Ну разве что иконки от боксовского геймпада. никаких пс4виндовс не ставил
А так же нельзя подключить третий Дуалшок? Четвертого ещё несколько месяцев не будет, а поиграть охота

Могу предположить, что игра распознала левый геймпад таки неправильно, потому что в норме второй стик отвечает именно за камеру. В не такие уж давние времена я пользовался в подобных ситуациях x360ce — программой-прокладкой, заставляющей любые игры принимать сторонние контроллеры за безусловно поддерживаемый геймпад от Xbox 360. Что важно, в настройках самой программы все можно настроить как угодно. (Позже я просто пересел на настоящие боксовские геймпады и бед не знаю.)

Проходил на Logitech 510 в 2013 году еще, тогда еще Школяр не вышел. Что за геймпад такой у тя? У меня стим версия и лоджик и беспроводной х360 все отлично.

How to use x360ce emulator with Dark Souls on PC
In this tutorial you will find steps to make x360ce work with Dark Souls. This method also works with any game – just do the same easy steps, no special skills needed to make any controller work as an Xbox 360 gamepad. Emulator allows your controller (joystick, wheel, gamepad, etc.) to operate as the most common device, recognized by most of the games without any additional settings and workarounds.
1. The first step is to download x360ce zip file from official site. You have to select 32 or 64 bit version (same as the version of Dark Souls you use). If you don’t know the version of your game or download wrong one accidentally, you will be notified later and have a chance to use another version.
2. Now we have to find the installation folder of your game. You can easily do this by looking into game shortcut settings or finding the game in your Steam library list. If you choose the Steam variant, right click the game name and select “Properties”.
3. Navigate to “Local files” tab and press “Browse local files. ” button.
4. Now you need to find the folder with Dark Souls executable. In the example picture they are located in Binaries / Retail subfolder. You need to extract downloaded x360ce ZIP file to folder with your game executable file.
5. Click on x360ce exe file with the right mouse button and select “Run as administrator” from dropdown menu.
6. You will see window with warning – “xinput 1_3.dll was not found. This file is required for emulator to function properly.” Don’t worry, just click “Create” button to make them appear.
7. When x360ce will inform you that new device was detected, use automatic search for settings from internet – just hit “Next” button.
8. Click “Finish”, when installation completed.
9. Hit the “Auto” button to make all settings set to defaults. Confirm changes by clicking “Yes” in popup window. All the buttons will be filled automatically.
10. Now just hit “Save” button to make all your settings saved. You can also change buttons assignment before hitting “Save”, if you like.
Now you can normally launch Dark Souls and use your controller with x360ce emulator – it will be starting automatically with each game launch.
