Disco Elysium
I went into big picture and within 5 minutes I had it working well with an xbox controller.
I just saw that it’s coming to consoles next year, so controller support will probably appear on the PC version at some point.
For now I’ve just been using my Steam controller.

how? how do you do this??

Usually you’ll find community configs already setup for you in big picture’s controller configurator (per game). If there aren’t any, perhaps Terrapin would be kind enough to pin/upload his in steam for you to use.

I’ve been using an old Logitech Dual Action controller and for the most part it’s fine except it takes a bit of getting used to the right stick as the mouse when selecting dialogue options. Rather clunky would be my description.
I’ve also taken the plunge and ordered a Steam Controller as from what I’ve read that plays better with games that are designed for mouse + keyboard. Fingers crossed.

You can also press the number keys to select dialogue options, so you could do something like binding the d-pad directions to 1,2,3 and 4 to cover most options that way.

That would be a selling point for me. Larian put in the effort with Divinity: Original Sin as well as the sequel and in this day and age where gaming laptops (yes, that IS a thing) and gaming on PC with a controller is so common, controller support turns out to be a selling point.
If this is coming to consoles as well, I see little reason for them not to implement controller support on PC as well. So many small developers have controller support on PC, even when they don’t owe us that at all, so I don’t see any reason for them to keep that from us.
Sad, but expected.
I’m fine with playing with kb/m every now and then, especially for a CRPG like this one.
Ah yes, the obligatory «controller support» thread that plagues every PC (or multiplatform) game about to launch. Sad to see that once again it’s filled with people who refuse to acknowledge that any PC game in existance already has a controller supported straight at launch, the only controller that doesn’t require a full UI rework to accomodate it, the only controller that manages to perfectly emulate the mouse for any game genre (other than comepetitive twitch shooters), the one and only STEAM CONTROLLER.
Buy it, use it! That is what it’s there for — to allow PC games with a PC UI built for kb&m to be played from the comfort of your couch. When are people like you actually going to stop complaining about a non-issue and stop demanding that developers spend time and money to rework the game’s UI just so you can use your inferior console controllers? You think reworking a PC UI to fit a console controller is easy? Think again!
Steam Controller, people. Use it (like I and plenty of others do) and stop complaining about a non-issue that takes up time and resources an indie dev studio like this does not have to spare.
I’m sick & tired (not to mention quite a bit disgusted) of seeing the same lazy, ignorant and entitled post every time a game «dares» to release on PC with a PC UI not built for inferior console controllers.

You guys should use this, basically turns your controller into a keyboard and mouse.
Unfortunately Gamepad Support isn’t a something we’ll be able to look at for launch. Hopefully we can revisit at a later date 🙂

No one is falling for your sock puppet theatrics Gabe.
Sock puppet? So pointing out the entitlement and sheer ignorance (to put it mildly) of people like the op makes me a sock puppet?
FYI (for your information) I would sing the praises of anyone who manged to create a succesful emulation of the mouse&kb on a controller (especially the mouse), even if it was scumbags like EA or Activision that achieved it. Why? Because it is an achievement and it has managed to do exactly what it set out to do : make games with PC user interfaces built for kb&m playable on a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ controller (from a couch or anywhere else you friggin wish).
It just so happens that Valve was the one to come up with it. I don’t own any other Valve hardware and I don’t care for any of it (Steam Link included, which is probably the most popular and succesful Valve hardware). So how does it make me a sock puppet or Gabe in diguise trying to push Valve hardware down peoples throats?
Have you ever used the Steam Controller or are you just talking out of your behind?
You do realize that it’s not just me who is using it, right? There are thousands of Steam controller users who enjoy playing every PC game in existance (from classics of the 90’s all the way up to Disco Elysium) from the comfort of their couches. Planty of them don’t even buy their games from Steam (since you can use it with any PC game you like, without even having Steam installed).
I haven’t used my kb&m to play a PC game in the last 5 years and I’ve played through both POE games, Spellforce 3, HOMM 7, Age of Wonders 3 and several Total War games (Warhammer 1&2, Rome, TK) to name just a few.
But it’s easier to whine about lack of support for console controllers that require major investment of time and money from devs to rework their entire UI instead of friggin buying (last time I checked it didn’t cost an arm and a leg) and using the one controller out there — and IT IS A CONTROLLER in every aspect of the term — who allows for playing a game with a PC UI without any effort or money required on the part of the devs : the Steam Controller
Oh, and feel free to call it the ‘mouse and keyboard emulator controller ‘ or the ‘royale with cheese controller’ or whatever you wish to call it if you are alergic to the name Steam or Gabe.
I promise you this ‘sock puppet’ (as you gratuitously called me) doesn’t care either way.
Steam controller works great for this game and is a worthwhile investment in general. Enjoying the comfy couch life with this game!
