I was encountering the same issue today. I have tried cmd (following code) but could not solve this issue. I opened cmd as administrator and tried both 32 and 64bit dll just in case.

C:\Windows\system32>cd/
C:\>cd “Program Files”
C:\Program Files>cd “FileZilla FTP Client”
C:\Program Files\FileZilla FTP Client>regsvr32 fzshellext_64.dll

*For users use 32bit, use «regsvr32 fzshellext.dll» instead.

I’m glad that I found this forum and people actually suffer with the same issue.
I’ve installed WinSCP instead (and can do drag and drop) for the time being though I hope MS can solve this issue as soon as possible. I like FileZilla better.

Hello!!
As @palmetree wrote , WinSCP works fine only using «temporary folder» on drag n drop function. ( see it below )

The relative function shell ( drag and drop shell extension ) also on WinSCP is affected from the same win10 1803 update bug!!
So using it on dragging a file it could be dropped only on the local directory ( choosen in the internal local WinsCP shell )

Maybe should be a «solution» for you @botg.. could be processed and included in filezilla’ s options this «termporary folder».
What do you think about ?

In order to get around the problem while waiting for microsoft fix ( Let’s get Xmas waiting for them. )

Now tested and winSCP works good in any setting and directory !! thank you very much.
I hope filezilla could implement this in the next release. I completely agree with @timg11

Wrong. Plain drag&drop of existing files does not require ICopyHook interface.

If the mechanic breaks the window wipers when changing tires, you still can use your car for most things, you just can’t wipe your windows anymore.

FileZilla не удается перетащить в Проводнике Windows

не удалось определить цель операции перетаскивания. Либо расширение оболочки установлено неправильно, либо файлы не были помещены в окно Проводника.

это работало ранее, я использую FileZilla в течение многих лет. Я использовал его прошлой ночью, и он работал нормально. Я пытался переустановить FileZilla, я пытался перезагрузив компьютер, я попытался повторно зарегистрировать расширение оболочки, которое я нашел в интернете. Ничего из этого не сработало. Drag & падение из удаленной панели FileZilla в Проводнике Windows требуется расширение оболочки» copy hook».

такого рода расширений оболочки сломался в Windows 10 версии 1803. Таким образом, все приложения, которые полагаются на них сломаны (не только FileZilla).

есть даже объявление на сайте FileZilla:

Microsoft сломал интерфейс ICopyHook в Windows 1803. Пока Microsoft не исправит ошибку в Windows, перетащите FileZilla в Explorer не будет работать на Windows 1803.

для некоторого фона, вы можете прочитать WinSCP статья о Drag & drop Shell расширение. FileZilla использует код WinSCP для drag&drop (который, в свою очередь, использует аналогичный код из Altap Salamander). Хотя WinSCP имеет альтернативные методы, поэтому drag&drop все еще работает, даже без расширения.

Try re-registering the shell extension.

32bit system: Open command shell, navigate to Filezilla directory and type ‘regsvr32 fzshellext.dll’.

64bit system: Do the above, additionally type ‘regsvr32 fzshellext_64.dll’.

find out the type of OS by pressing +
(or right click ‘My Computer’/’Computer’ and select ‘Properties’)

Thanks a lot! It appeared like it worked! I got the ‘success’ pop up message. I won’t be able to check it until I’m out from behind my home router (I can’t get FileZilla to connect at home — I think it has something to do with the IP address), but will check it at school where it always works and hopefully it fixed it.

When I do this I keep getting an error saying the following:

Here is what I am typing in the cmd (with admin priv’s)

Anyone point what I am doing wrong?

Mine still doesn’t work after sucessfully regsvring the dll. I get:

Could not determine the target of the Drag&Drop operation.
Either the shell extension is not installed properly or you didn’t drop the files into an Explorer window.

I’ve tried dropping a folder and a file and neither work. Instead of the folder or file I always get a folder named something like fz3-12344695938400. I’ve tried dropping to my desktop and also the C:. Any suggestions?

EDIT: Also I can get files from command prompt ftp.exe, just not the filezilla client.

I have the same problem. Drag and Drop gives the above error on my Vista computer.

In Vista it is important to run the command prompt elevated.

After the newest update 3.37.3 (64bit) I have lost the function to drag and drop to windows explorer getting the following error message:
«Could not determine the target of the Drag&Drop operation. Either the shell extension is not installed properly or you didn’t drop the files into an explorer window.»

I had a look through the forums and have seen other post about this issue with apparent fixes, notably re-registry with the following method:
1. Open a command prompt as administrator. This is important!
Start Menu — All Programs — Accessories: Right Click ‘Command Prompt’, select ‘Run as administrator’
2. Navigate to the Filezilla program directory.
Example (32bit): cd «\Program Files\Filezilla FTP Client»
Example (64bit): cd «\Program Files (x86)\FileZilla FTP Client»
3. Re-register the shell extension.
Type ‘regsvr32 fzshellext.dll’ (without quotes of course)
4. If you have 64bit OS, you need to perform an additional step.
Type ‘regsvr32 fzshellext_64.dll’ (no quotes as well)
If you get the reply ‘DllRegisterServer in . succeeded.’, you’ve done it (though you probably still need to reboot your computer).

I have tried this numerous times including from fresh installs but unfortunately I have not been able to fix it. Can anyone suggest a possible problem, or point out where I am going wrong?

Operating system is Windows 10 (build 17134), 64-bit edition
