Question: Q: Cannot Load Intel Power Gadget Driver

I recently attempted to download Intel Power Gadget for my 2015 15″ MacBook pro. After installing, I got the following error:

Читайте также:  Варочная панель аристон не работает одна конфорка

«The Power Gadget driver is not currently loaded. If you just installed the app, please load the driver by going to System Preferences > Security & Privacy > General, and Allow the system software from «Intel Corporation Apps». Then restart your computer.»

Unfortunately, upon going to System Preferences > Security & Privacy > General, I realized I did not have an allow button.

At this point, I tried uninstalling intel power gadget, disabling Gatekeeper, allowing applications from anywhere, and re-downloading the software, but this produced no luck.

I then looked in System Information, and under disabled software saw the following:

    Z3L495V9L4 — com.intel.driver.EnergyDriver:

    Reason: No User Consent

    Date Disabled: Unknown

Unfortunately, there is no way I am aware of to remove software from the disabled software category.

Since I saw that it was a consent issue, I disabled kext-consent in an attempt to lift the requirement (although I doubt this is the issue). This produced no luck.

I then considered that maybe it was my account, so I created a new admin login and redownloaded the software. Again, no luck.

I’m looking for a way to allow the power gadget driver to be loaded. Once again, please note:

I do not have an allow button, and despite uninstalling and reinstalling every step, I was unable to get this button to appear,

According to System Information, the software is under the Disabled Software category, which I don’t know how to enable any software from.

If you have a solution to this problem, please let me know. Thanks!

    intel-power-gadget 3.5.4,770353 fails to install #52927

    Comments

    BenjaminHCCarr commented Oct 5, 2018 •

    General troubleshooting steps

    • I have retried my command with —force and the issue is still present.
    • I have checked the instructions for reporting bugs.
    • I made doubly sure this is not a checksum does not match error.
    • I ran brew update-reset && brew update and retried my command.
    • I ran brew doctor , fixed as many issues as possible and retried my command.
    • I checked there are no open issues for the same problem.
    • I understand that if I ignore these instructions, my issue may be closed without review.

    Description of issue

intel-power-gadget 3.5.4,770353 fails to install, the SHA256 in the ruby file is different than that served by Intel:
    d257937f8b00a0cfd6722b088eb9103f77889f8b88a759c13d7619d8d777222d intel-power-gadget—3.5.4,770353
and different still than the one picked up by Homebrew Cask:

    But the pkg downloaded to

/Library/Caches/Homebrew/Cask can succesfully be installed by hand.

    Command that failed

Output of command with —force —verbose —debug

    Output of brew cask doctor

    Output of brew tap

The text was updated successfully, but these errors were encountered:

Looking for others with this error I found this: #52271

Which recommended using reinstall instead of upgrade which worked:

    Intel Power Gadget Help Please

    getrealbro

Despite copious Googling, I’m having trouble understanding some of the Intel Power Gadget v3.6.1 curves.

The Power, Temperature and Utilization graphs are pretty easy to figure out. But the Frequency graph — not so much. I guessing that these curves are…

GFX curve = freq of the Intel UHD Graphics 630
Straight Line = Max freq of the cores without TurboBoost
MAX curve = top of the blue shaded area
MIN curve = bottom of shaded area
AVG curve = blue curve inside the shaded area

BUT… what exactly do the MAX, MIN and AVG represent? IOW do the MAX, MIN and AVG curves represent the frequency of the fastest, slowest and median of the 6 cores at any given time? And if so, why do these curves quickly converge above the nominal core frequency even when the Utilization curve barely budges?

    Thanks in Advance — GetRealBro

    Green is the GPU.
Straight grey line is the ‘guaranteed’, non turbo base GPU frequency at processor TDP (e.g. 28W, 45W, 65W, 95W, etc). Your chip is a 65W CPU based on the grey line in the power chart.
REQ is the requested frequency — normally the maximum value possible depending on number of cores being loaded — and proportioanl to the CPU specs listed on ARK.
I have assumed that the MAX, MIN and AVG reperesent the maximum, minimum and average fequency observed in each sampling window (e.g. 1 second). But, yes. I’m not sure how the multiple cores (each potentially at a different frequency) come into play here.

It looks like you have either an i7 iMac or i7 mac mini, is that correct?

Thanks for the info. «the MAX, MIN and AVG represent the maximum, minimum and average frequency observed in each sampling window» makes sense.

Yes this a «Black Friday» 2018 Mac Mini i7 w/32GB Ram (self installed).I was planning on getting an i5 but made an impulse upgrade based on the larger discount. «But look honey how much more money I saved.»

    Intel Power Gadget

    Narwaro

for those who cannot install it, try the install process trough Pacifist:

    Hope it will help

Same here but with a 5820K

EDIT: Missed the Pacifist suggestion that worked, thanks!!

    Intel Power Gadget (IPG)

The Intel Power Gadget installer checks for supported CPUs and won’t install
if it can’t find one it likes. As my hackintosh is a Haswell-E 5930K on X99 I’m way offside.

Here’s how to install IPG manually by-passing the installer, form the command line

Download and mounter the IPG dmg.

Now, deep breath open a terminal window

    # mkdir IPG
    # cd IPG

    # cp cp /Volumes/Intel®\ Power\ Gadget/Install\ Intel\ Power\ Gadget.pkg .

    Let’s see what we have

    # file *
Install Intel Power Gadget.pkg: xar archive — version 1

Ok, it’s a xar file, let’s extract it.

    # xar -xvf Install\ Intel\ Power\ Gadget.pkg
    Intel Power Gadget Application.pkg/Bom
    Intel Power Gadget Application.pkg/Payload
    Intel Power Gadget Application.pkg/Scripts
    Intel Power Gadget Application.pkg/PackageInfo
    Intel Power Gadget Driver (>=10.9).pkg/Bom
    Intel Power Gadget Driver (>=10.9).pkg/Payload
    Intel Power Gadget Driver (>=10.9).pkg/Scripts
    Intel Power Gadget Driver (>=10.9).pkg/PackageInfo
    Intel Power Gadget Framework.pkg/Bom
    Intel Power Gadget Framework.pkg/Payload
    Intel Power Gadget Framework.pkg/Scripts
    Intel Power Gadget Framework.pkg/PackageInfo
    Resources/license.txt
    Distribution
    Resources
    Intel Power Gadget Framework.pkg
    Intel Power Gadget Driver (>=10.9).pkg
    Intel Power Gadget Application.pkg

    What did we get ?

    # ls -1
    Distribution
    Install Intel Power Gadget.pkg
    Intel Power Gadget Application.pkg/
    Intel Power Gadget Driver (>=10.9).pkg/
    Intel Power Gadget Framework.pkg/
    Resources/

So we got the IPG app itself, a Framework and a driver (kext)
    Let’s start with the kext

    # cd Intel\ Power\ Gadget\ Driver\ \(\>=10.9\).pkg/

    And what’s in here

    # file *
Bom: Mac OS X bill of materials (BOM) file
PackageInfo: XML 1.0 document text, ASCII text
Payload: gzip compressed data, from Unix
Scripts: gzip compressed data, from Unix

Not much we can do with the Bom or PackageInfo, so let’s mess with the gzips

    # mv Payload Payload.gz
    # gunzip Payload.gz

    Now what do we have

    # file Payload
Payload: ASCII cpio archive (pre-SVR4 or odc)

A cpio file, well let’s deal with that

Ah, there’s the kext, we know what to do with that

    # sudo pax -pe -rw EnergyDriver.kext /Library/Extensions

    # sudo kextload /Libarary/Extensions/EnergyDriver.kext

    Now for the Framework

    # cd ..
    # cd Intel\ Power\ Gadget\ Framework.pkg/

    # file *
Bom: Mac OS X bill of materials (BOM) file
PackageInfo: XML 1.0 document text, ASCII text
Payload: gzip compressed data, from Unix
Scripts: gzip compressed data, from Unix

    # mv Payload Payload.gz
    # gunzip Payload.gz
    # cpio -dv

K, let’s put that with the other Frameworks

    # sudo pax -pe -rw IntelPowerGadget.framework /Library/Frameworks

    Now for the app

    # cd ..
    # cd Intel\ Power\ Gadget\ Application.pkg/

    # file *
Bom: Mac OS X bill of materials (BOM) file
PackageInfo: XML 1.0 document text, ASCII text
Payload: gzip compressed data, from Unix
Scripts: gzip compressed data, from Unix

    # mv Payload Payload.gz
    # gunzip Payload.gz

    # cd Intel\ Power\ Gadget/

    # ls -1
    Intel(R) Power Gadget.app/
    PowerLog*
    Read Me.html
    Uninstaller.pkg

Now we can «install» the app

    # pax -pe -rw Intel\(R\)\ Power\ Gadget.app/ /Applications

At this point we should just be able the launch the app by double-clicking
