Hello,
I have played for about 20 hours Afterbirth+ on my xbox one S controller connected via Bluetooth to PC with no problems, but suddenly yesterday it just stopped working.
Now I can play with my keyboard and cord connected xb1 s controller but when I try to play via BT I’m getting an information “unrecognized gamepad please set up a key config for the connected controller”. I cannot set up any keys in the options>controller>bluetooth xinput because the page is empty. Tried to reinstall both game and steam client with no avail. Tried also to copy code form corded xinput to wireless xinput in inputconfings.dat but it didn’t help either. The controller is good because I can play on it with other games via BT. The only way to play wireless is to start a new run with corded controller, options>controls and connect via BT this controller then it’s works as it should until the next run. I can share my log, options.ini and inputconfings.dat

SOLUTION: I have found a solution, but I don’t think this method is the ultimate one but it does work for now.
I unchecked two of DLC’s(AB, AB+) in steam client what resulted in unistalling them, then I started the game, It opened as a basic Rebirth version. I finally managed to set up controls on a BT connected controller in options>controls in game. Lastly I copied an inputconfings.dat from Rebirth folder and put pasted it to Afterbirth+ folder(Documents>MyGames>), checked both DLC’s (installed them again) and it works.
I’m late to the party but I just ran into this issue myself. I followed your solution but with some different steps.
So I uninstalled the DLCs, opened vanilla Rebirth, and went to the controller setup page in options>controls. There I clicked on the profile to remap and just took some pictures of where the different buttons appear on the screen (since my issue was, like you said, the page in AB and AB+ doesn’t show the order of the buttons you have to map). Then I reinstalled the DLCs and, following the pics I took, mapped out the buttons accordingly. Heads up, the bottom two rows of mapping input options are null, as far as I can tell they don’t map to anything and I’m not sure why they’re there at all.
I’m sure yours worked too, but here’s my workaround for people who don’t want to dig through the .dat files in the game folder!

В этом руководстве я кратко опишу что же делать если вы решили сыграть вместе. Следует предупредить сразу, что первый игрок, который будет запускать игру (хост) сможет играть как с клавиатуры так и с любого другого устройства, именно он тут dungeon master (который так же осуществляет все дополнительные взаимодействия с игрой) а вы его boy next door, и вы — подключающийся игрок номер два должны будете иметь в наличии геймпад! Без него — никак!
Первым делом вы должны зайти в игру (хосту), желательно заходить лишь в главное меню, для чего это делается скажу позже.
Второй же игрок может не запускать игру. И ждать пока первый игрок не пришлет приглашение поиграть (из меню стима). Игра вскоре сама загрузится и подключиться к экрану хоста.
После того как вы войдете в меню управление целиком и полностью будет у хоста, он выбирает персонажа и запускает новую игру.
Когда начнётся игра хосту не следует покидать зону спавна. Причиной этому служит то, что если второй игрок заспавниться за пределами стартовой комнаты, то он станет демоном с 1 сердечком с урезанным функционалам, будет мало урона. Так что следует подождать вашего напарника для полной полноты ощущений.
Второй игрок играя с геймпада, при заходе должен нажать кнопку start. После этого в верхнем правом углу появиться окошко, где вы можете выбрать персонажа, выбирайте нужного и вот вы играете в Коопе. Поздравляю!
Стоит так же отметить что джойстики бывают разные. В моём случае это Logitech, и на его примере кратко объясню как работает.
- Левый сосочек и левая крестовина отвечает за то чтобы в игре ходить по соответствующим осям
- Правый стик и правая панель с буковками соотвественно для выстрелов в конкретную часть света.
- Главная кнопка посередине отвечает за различные настройки и показатели игры.
- Правее неё кнопка Start, которая нужна для запуска персонажа
- Левее неё кнопка Back, которая тоже отвечает за настройку уже коопа, у вас на экране будет мячить надпись и чтобы от неё избавиться, попробуйте эту кнопку зажать и будет ОК
Так же есть и верхнии кнопки, их не много, с ними проще.
Тут я опишу проблемы которые могут возникнуть с вами и вашим коллегой (комрадом).
Лично на своём примере столкнулся с проблемой управление, когда я заходил SHIFT + TAB меню Стима играя с геймпада, то у меня начинало лагать управление, я не мог ничего нажать, ничего сделать.
Как собственно это решается? Очень просто — хост должен выйти быстренько в меню и обратно вернуться (при этом не выходить из сессии! Типо как проверить статистику), ну а так же сам зайти в меню Стима и выйти. По сути должно разлагаться и вернуть управление и вашу судьбу в ваши руки. Но кто знает. Может вы опять не обновили драйвера.

В общем это все моменты связанные с коопом которые я смог найти и обозначить. Разве что буду рад дополнить руководство вашими замечаниями и вашей поддержкой!
Что касаемо зачем я это сделал — потому-что я не смог найти подробный гайд о том как поиграть с другом, что вызвало у меня проблемы, которые пришлось искать самим. Так что не судите строго.
Надеюсь, что это руководство поможет некоторым игрокам и их вторым половинкам наконец-то пройти мрачные комнаты Айзека вместе, истребляя полчища врагов в потоке хауса и приобретая необычайные очертания лиц.

How to use x360ce emulator with The Binding of Isaac on PC
In this tutorial you will find steps to make x360ce work with The Binding of Isaac. This method also works with any game – just do the same easy steps, no special skills needed to make any controller work as an Xbox 360 gamepad. Emulator allows your controller (joystick, wheel, gamepad, etc.) to operate as the most common device, recognized by most of the games without any additional settings and workarounds.
1. The first step is to download x360ce zip file from official site. You have to select 32 or 64 bit version (same as the version of The Binding of Isaac you use). If you don’t know the version of your game or download wrong one accidentally, you will be notified later and have a chance to use another version.
2. Now we have to find the installation folder of your game. You can easily do this by looking into game shortcut settings or finding the game in your Steam library list. If you choose the Steam variant, right click the game name and select “Properties”.
3. Navigate to “Local files” tab and press “Browse local files. ” button.
4. Now you need to find the folder with The Binding of Isaac executable. In the example picture they are located in Binaries / Retail subfolder. You need to extract downloaded x360ce ZIP file to folder with your game executable file.
5. Click on x360ce exe file with the right mouse button and select “Run as administrator” from dropdown menu.
6. You will see window with warning – “xinput 1_3.dll was not found. This file is required for emulator to function properly.” Don’t worry, just click “Create” button to make them appear.
7. When x360ce will inform you that new device was detected, use automatic search for settings from internet – just hit “Next” button.
8. Click “Finish”, when installation completed.
9. Hit the “Auto” button to make all settings set to defaults. Confirm changes by clicking “Yes” in popup window. All the buttons will be filled automatically.
10. Now just hit “Save” button to make all your settings saved. You can also change buttons assignment before hitting “Save”, if you like.
Now you can normally launch The Binding of Isaac and use your controller with x360ce emulator – it will be starting automatically with each game launch.

I’m in Ubuntu 14.04, trying to use an Xbox 360 wireless controller. I’ve got xboxdrv, and my controller works fine in other games with controller support. Just not BoI:R.
When I go to Options > Controllers > and try to set up my key config, if I press enter or space on an option, the game locks up.
In .local/share/binding of isaac rebirth/inputconfig.dat, I have:
I’m really not sure what’s wrong. 🙁 And I don’t know how to read/edit this file properly.
Semi-necro here. I eventually resolved this by just going to Options > Controllers > then configuring the bottom controller on the list (rather than the top one, as would be intuitive).
The config screen then works as expected (select a binding, press appropriate button on controller). Later when using a second controller for co-op, the second one didn’t even need to be configured.
This is still blatantly a bug and needs fixing, but at least the workaround is easy. Hope it works for everyone else! I didn’t mention in my previous post, but I’m using a wireless xbox360 controller with 64bit Mint 17. I also emailed Nicalis about it, didn’t get so much as an automated «Thanks for your email» reply *shrug*.
