JetSmartFilters: How to Create Search Filter
This tutorial uncovers the way of creating a Search filter with the help of JetSmartFilters plugin in Elementor editor.
JetSmartFilters is a plugin that adds easy-to-use AJAX filters to the pages built with Elementor which contains the dynamic listing. JetSmartFilters plugin provides seven different widgets for applying filters.
The Search widget is one of them. You can use this filter to allow visitors to search for the matching results manually by inputting the needed words into the Search field.
Please, note, that in order to use JetSmartFilters you would also need JetEngine or JetWooBuilder plugins to showcase the product or post listing.
Let’s proceed to creating a Search filter with the JetSmartFilters plugin.
1 Step — Create a filter
Log into your WordPress Dashboard, navigate to the Smart Filters tab, and hit the “Add New” button. You will need to fill such fields as Name and Filter Labels and choose the “Search” option in the Filter Type drop-down menu.
In the Search by bar, you will have two variants to choose from. The Default WordPress search will apply a default search to this filter. And By Custom Field option will allow the users to make searches in fields mentioned in the Query Variable text area.
As mentioned, in the Query Variable you’ll need to define the name of the field you want the filter to search in. When you’re done with this, click on the “Publish” button.
2 Step — Apply the filter to the page
Open the page or post you want to apply a Search filter to and place a Listing Grid there. It has to be filled with the publications that have a custom field you typed in the Query Variable bar. Drag and drop the Search filter widget to the needed section.
In the Content settings, you have to select your filter and choose the “JetEngine” option in This filter for section field.
After styling the filter and the Grid – click on the “Publish” button and try your filter out.
Congrats! Now you know how to create a Search filter with the JetSmartFilters plugin.

Jet Smart Filters, Products Loop, and Item Count do not work in unison #813
Comments
MacGuyver-jv commented Jan 14, 2020
I have a somewhat specialized product that needs custom categories. I also need to display my custom attributes in an attractive way. I currently use an archive template combined with products loop, so I can have a custom product view when displaying my shop page.
There are currently only 30 products while I set up my website, but I plan to have thousands. I will eventually need to be able to filter on factors such as state, county, year, and product category.
I currently use jetsmart filters to filter on county and state. When I apply the filters, the product count does not update. When I click on the next page, it simply goes to the next page as if there were no filters applied. Neither of these situations are ideal.
I either need the product count and pagination buttons to work with the filters, or I need to be able to set the maximum number of products that will show up in a products loop. Otherwise, I will not be able to display all of my products that fit my selected filter. Another solution would be to make product grid or product list fully customizable with custom taxonomies.
The text was updated successfully, but these errors were encountered:

JetSmartFiters can’t work with default wordpress archive pagination(slug like: . /blog/page/2 ) currently, which is created by option from built-in Elementor Posts or Posts Pagination from JetElements. Whenever I click the pagination to other pages, applied filters would be blank again. I hope it could be fixed since this is very important to SEO.

I don’t quite understand your request. Filters work only with the pagination widget from the plugin itself. In order for the product counter to be updated, you need to configure indexing options. If you display products using the products loop, you must configure the number of products in the settings of the woo plugin. If you still have questions, please issue them in more detail with screenshots or a video. You can also contact our support team.

JetSmartFilters Not Working: 7 Things You Need to Check
Question
Can’t figure out why JetSmartFilters stopped working
Answer
There are some typical cases when smart filters might not be working as expected. In this troubleshooting article, we’re going to spill the tea and cover the 7 most common JetSmartFilters issues. Read on!
Old plugin version.
Sometimes it’s the plugin version that impedes filters from working properly. Make sure yours is up-to-date. Follow the Crocoblock > Update & Installation pathway, press the “Check For Updates” button, then find JetSmartFilters amid all plugins, and see if there’s a newer version of it. If yes, press “Update Now” below to the plugin name.
Poorly configured settings.
First and foremost, you need to double-check if the necessary widget is activated in the Crocoblock dashboard. To do it, proceed to Crocoblock > JetPlugins Settings > JetSmartFilters > General Settings. You will see a list of content widgets available for filtering there. Enable the toggles of those you need. The changes will be saved automatically.
Another trouble you may encounter is the deactivated Indexer functionality. To make sure it’s enabled, open the Indexer Settings in the JetSmartFilters Settings tab. If the toggle is not active, enable it.
Next, proceed to Smart Filters > Smart Filters in the WP dashboard and press the red button to index filters.
Improper Elementor settings.
Sometimes, it’s necessary to check the filter settings in Elementor. Let’s start with the provider. In the “This filter for” drop-down list, you need to pick the right option. If we want to filter the WooCommerce archive page, it’s crucial to stick with the “WooCommerce Archive (by JetWooBuilder)” option as shown below.
If you want to filter anything else, like Listing Grid, make sure to pick the “JetEngine” option in the drop-down.
Another tricky thing is mixing up the values of the Apply type and Apply on fields. For instance, if you choose “Page reload” as Apply type, then it’s necessary to activate the Show apply button toggle switch.
In case you’ve gone with either “AJAX” or “Mixed” as Apply type and selected “Click on apply button” in the Apply on field, don’t forget to switch ON the Show apply button toggle.
Elementor Pro widget issues.
Does your project involve working with the Elementor Pro widgets? If positive, then you might want to know that it’s a must to link them via Query IDs. To learn more about this, go read this troubleshooting guide: https://crocoblock.com/troubleshooting/articles/how-to-set-filters-elementor-pro-posts/
Multiple elements on one page.
In case there are more than one Listing Grid, several posts, and product grids on a page you want to add the filters to, successful filtering may require an extra effort. We’re talking about assigning filters to the widgets by adding a CSS ID to every content section. More details can be found here: https://crocoblock.com/knowledge-base/articles/jetsmartfilters-how-to-specify-the-widget-for-which-to-apply-the-jetsmartfilter-widgets-filter/. Plus, we’ve done a troubleshooting video on the same issue. Check it out: https://crocoblock.com/troubleshooting/articles/how-to-fix-broken-listing-grid-styles/.
NOTE. If you hide a content section with a Listing Grid in it (the so-called Responsive option) and try to display the grids on mobile devices, keep in mind that you also need to assign the CSS IDs. Both in the main Grid and the hidden one.
Improperly set Checkbox meta field.
It is fairly easy to mistake the Checkboxes filter type and the similarly named JetEngine meta field. If you go to the Smart Filters > Smart Filters and open to edit a Checkboxes field type of yours, you’ll be able to see that there’s a switch toggle named Is Checkbox Meta Field (Jet Engine).
This toggle should be activated only if you’re going to filter data from the Checkbox meta field type that you created using JetEngine. Let’s sum up:
- You DO activate this toggle if the filter type is “Checkboxes list” or any other and the meta field type you want the data to be pulled is “Checkboxes”;
- You DO NOT activate this toggle if the filter type is any and the meta field type is not “Checkboxes”.
Tricky Visual filter.
If you want the Visual filter to perform as expected, it’s vitally important to input its value at the stage of options setup.
There you have it – 7 things worth checking if filters don’t work. Hopefully, you’ll find a solution here. Good luck!

Conflict with JetSmartfilter and Elementor Pro
First of all , I like the extended search possibilities.
I recently encountered a compatibility problem.
I use Elementor Pro and use the theme builder to create Archive Templates for different Custom Post Type with the widget Archive Post of elementor
Recently I discovered a compatibility issue if I use WP extended Search and JetSmartfilter the Archive Template cannot find the correct archive.
Deactivating JetSmartfilter and Extended Search activated the correct archive is shown.
Also by deactivating Extended Search and a activated JetSmartfilter the archive template gives the correct information.
I have informed Crocoblock the designer of the JetSmartfilter and I will inform Elementor as well.
Regards
Wim Bax
Hi,
I have the same issue with Elementor and WP Extended Search.
The plugin block Elementor template search fields.
I am having the same issue aswell. Anyone found any work around to get it to work while using this plugin?
I received an answer from elementor.
It is really an compatibility issue.
see answer from elementor.
It is up to all three development communities to solve this.
As expressed previously, such issues due to conflicts from another plugin (or plugins) must be reported to the technical team of the conflicting plugin for further troubleshooting and a possible fix. If further collaboration is needed, they are free to contact our developers directly by opening an issue post on our GitHub page.
For your information in this particular case, this seems to occur as the “is_search” query value (during the posts retrieval/query process) is being set to “true” by a third-party function along the way. As a result, the “WP Extended Seach” plugin treats this posts retrieval process as a search query (not as an archive query) and pulls in other unrelated posts from the selected post types selected in the “Settings > Extended Search > Select Post Types” section. For reference, the function responsible for adding these selected post types to the query can be found in “wp-extended-search/includes/WP_ES.php” file at line 97 to 149.
You may provide the information given above to the other development teams for their review as we also make a note of this on our end.
Regards
I ended up getting Elementor to work while this plugin is active by adding the following if statement wrapped inside the wp_es_custom_query function
Add this right after the global $wpdb; line in the function wp_es_custom_query
` if(!is_user_logged_in()) <
Added a closing bracket right before the return statement in the same function
This is sort of a hacky workaround but it works well for us as our users are not logged in.
I am open to make changes and resolve issue with Elementor but I need the help to identity the Ajax action name.
See: https://wordpress.org/support/topic/admin-search-is-affecting-by-installing-this-plugin/#post-13139128
I can also test this with Elementor as it is free to download. Please let me know if issue is reproducible with free version of Elementor?
Below the original problem statement
I use Elementor Pro and use the theme builder to create Archive Templates for different Custom Post Type with the widget Archive Post of elementor
Recently I discovered a compatibility issue if I use WP extended Search and JetSmartfilter the Archive Template cannot find the correct archive.
That problem appears to be solved.
BUT now it created another problem to complicated to describe I made two screen captures but I don’t know how I can send these to you.

In the new version I have disabled the WPES for Elementor Ajax request.
Can you please share the site link to check?
Yes, I have installed your new version.
My site with the page ( archive ) is https://baxdesign.nl/boek/
Boek is a custom Post.
It is the combination of jetsmartfilter , elementor Pro ( archive template) and your plugin that causes the problem in my view.
In the page https://baxdesign.nl/jetsmart-sorteren-check-en-filters/ .
That is a normal page using elementor Pro post widget.
Your plugin works fine on another website with Elementor Pro and all the archive templates I made.
Thanks for the details.
I understand it now. Those are pagination numbers because of all posts from WPES setting added to query.
But I wonder why jetsmartfilter plugin setting is_search to true in their query?
Have you contacted them?
Anyways, Please try these changes and let me know.
Let me know if this fixes the issue?
Hi,
I was triggered by your remark about the query.
I know that sometimes you have to give the elementor widget an ID.
Then use this ID in the query of f.i. the pagination widget.
I did that and than also all the numbers are gone but than no pagination numbers at all.
There is another major problem that the custom posts boeken is not shown but the normal posts are selected and pagination is not shown at all .
Before changeing code I added this ID in the query.
Thanks for the info. But have you made the changes? What is the output after making those changes?
As per the Elementor support response is_search is true so I added another condition to check if there is any search query then only run the WPES filters.
If still not working then please contact the Jetsmartfilter support and ask them for help if any changes needed from my side I am ready to do.
Hi,
I made the changes.
There is some improvement, at least the Custom Post Boeken is shown and the pagination shows up.
But applying a filter function does not work.
Also the pagination function does not work.
Trying next and all posts disappear.
Regards
Wim Bax
I am not getting the issue without checking the code myself. And since both plugins are paid I will suggest you to contact the plugins author. If they can provide me technical description of the issue I can include the fix.
