Shrinkwrap
- Target
- Vertex Group
- Offset
- Subsurf Levels
Projection. - Mode
- Nearest Vertex —

Blender
in project mode, if verticies from the mesh doesnt line up enough with the other object, they wont snap to it. is there a way to change how much they need to line up?
and how can you make it smoother? i tried the smooth modifier, but then the mesh wont be touching the other mesh
Project just draws a line in the direction of the projection and if there is nothing to intersect along that line then they cannot be wrapped. Usually you’d make the object to wrap to slightly bigger to prevent that from happening.
It will be a smooth as the mesh allows. If you want it to be smoother, make the original project smoother and give the shrinkwrapped one enough vertices to actually follow that smooth surface.

i basically want the verticies that moved to act like proportional editing mode was used to move them, so the verticies around them move up too, to make it smoother. is there any addon or anything else to do this?
Shrinkwrap, as the name implies, wraps the vertices completely to their target.
For what want to do here you’d use proportional editing while snapping to the target vertex. Any reason you can’t do that?

You can animate while using proportional editing (and vice versa).
Maybe it would help if you described in more detail what exactly you want to do.

nothing specific, just any situation where i want a mesh to stick to another object, while that object is moving around.
so if the cube was moving around on the plane xy, and i want there to be a mound that follows it, if i manually edit the mesh, id have to do it every frame. i can use smooth modifer and use offset on the shrinkwrap, but for more complicated meshes it wont rly work

Why shrinkwrap not working on the mesh
I have a mesh and a plane that i want to shrinkwrap on that mesh. When shrinkwrap added its not wrap in the shape model. To the side its cut shape and not fully covered. On the top some part it got shrink and some not. Any help or suggestion plz Thanks

Are you shrink-wrapping to a single object? You’re only allowed a single target object in the shrink-wrap modifier. You can duplicate and merge your objects for the shrink-wrap process; that way, your original model state stays intact.
Also, if you are using other modifiers, play with the order of your modifiers by using the up and down arrow buttons in the modifier panel. I believe modifiers occur from the top down.
Lastly, the shrink-wrap modifier can only work with the geometry its given. subdividing your sheets will add more geometry and give you a more accurate wrap.
Hope this helps!
EDIT: After downloading your file and applying the methods I described above in a few clicks, I achieved the result you were searching for. There was not enough geometry in the ‘sheets’. Also take note of the offset value in the shrink-wrap modifier. see image below:

Modifier cannot be applied with shape keys.

Shrinkwrap Constraint¶
The Shrinkwrap constraint is the “object counterpart” of the Shrinkwrap Modifier . It moves the owner origin and therefore the owner object’s location to the surface of its target.
This implies that the target must have a surface. In fact, the constraint is even more selective, as it can only use meshes as targets. Hence, the Shrinkwrap option is only shown in the Add Constraint to Active Object menu, Ctrl — Alt — C , (or its bone’s equivalent), when the selected inactive object is a mesh.
Options¶
Data ID used to select the constraint’s target, which must be a mesh object, and is not functional (red state) when it has none. See common constraint properties for more information.
This number field controls the offset of the owner from the shrunk computed position on the target’s surface.
Controls the percentage of affect the constraint has on the object. See common constraint properties for more information.
Mode¶
This selector allows you to select which method to use to compute the point on the target’s surface to which to move the owner’s origin. You have these options:
Nearest Surface Point¶
The chosen target’s surface’s point will be the nearest one to the original owner’s location. This is the default and most commonly useful option.
Projection¶
The target’s surface point is determined by projecting the owner’s origin along a given axis.
This axis is controlled by the radio buttons that show up when you select this type. This mean the projection axis can only be aligned with one of the three axes, or their opposites. When the projection of the owner’s origin along the selected direction does not hit the target’s surface, the owner’s location is left unchanged.
Coordinate space in which the axis direction is specified.
Distance cutoff after which projection is assumed to have failed, leaving the location unchanged.
In addition to the selected projection axis, project in the opposite direction and choose the closest hit.
This radio button allows you to prevent any projection over the “front side” (respectively the “back side”) of the target’s faces. The “side” of a face is determined by its normal (front being the side “from where” the normal “originates”).
When used with Project Opposite and Face Culling, it inverts the Front or Back cull choice for the opposite direction.
Nearest Vertex¶
This method is very similar to the Nearest Surface Point one, except that the owner’s possible shrink locations are limited to the target’s vertices.
This method doesn’t support the Snap Mode setting described below.
Target Normal Projection¶
This method is similar to Nearest Surface Point, but produces a much smoother projection in return for being significantly slower.
Instead of finding the closest point, it searches for the nearest point that has its interpolated smooth normal pointing towards or away from the original owner position. Non-manifold boundary edges are specially handled as infinitely thin cylinders that emit normals in all perpendicular directions. Ignores flat shading and auto smooth settings.
Snap Mode¶
Most Shrinkwrap types support an additional setting to control how the owner is moved to the target point selected by the methods described above. Some of the choices only differ if Distance is not zero.
The owner location is always changed. The offset is applied along the projection line connecting the original owner location and selected target point towards the original position.
Like On Surface, but the offset is always applied towards the outside of the target.
Like On Surface, but the offset is applied along the smooth normal of the target.
The owner is not moved if it is already inside the target. Offset shrinks the allowed volume towards the inside along the projection line.
The owner is not moved if it is already outside the target. Offset expands the exclusion volume towards the outside along the projection line.
The Inside and Outside options can be used for very crude collision detection. The inside vs outside determination is done based on the target normal and is not always stable near 90 degree and sharper angles in the target mesh.
Align To Normal¶
Whenever Snap Mode is available, it is also possible to align the specified local axis of the object to the smooth normal of the target at the selected point. The axis is selected via radio buttons.
The alignment is performed via smallest rotation, like in Damped Track constraint.
