By default, PhpStorm is configured to check for updates automatically and notify you when a new version is available. Updates are usually patch-based : they are applied to the existing installation and only require you to restart the IDE. However, sometimes patch updates are not available, and a new version of PhpStorm must be installed.

When PhpStorm updates to a new major release, it opens the What’s New in PhpStorm tab in the editor with information about the changes, improvements, and fixes. To open this tab manually, select Help | What’s New in PhpStorm .

If PhpStorm does not have HTTP access outside your local network, it will not be able to check for updates and apply patches. In this case, you have to download new versions of the IDE and install them manually as described in Standalone installation.

Toolbox App

If you installed PhpStorm using the Toolbox App, it will suggest you to update the IDE when a new version is available.

Automatically update all managed tools

Open the Toolbox App and click in the top right corner.

In the Toolbox App Settings dialog, expand Tools and select Update all tools automatically .

If you disable this option, you will need to click Update next to any instance when a newer version comes out.

You can also configure the update policy for every managed IDE instance separately.

Configure the update policy for a specific instance

Open the Toolbox App, click next to the relevant IDE instance, and select Settings .

In the instance settings dialog, select the update channel to use for this IDE instance:

Update to Release : Update only to stable releases that are recommended for production.

To Release and Early Access Program : Includes updates to release candidates, beta releases, and EAP builds, which are not recommended for production and include feature previews.

Standalone instance

If you installed PhpStorm manually, the standalone IDE instance will manage its own updates. It will notify you when a new version is available. You can choose to update the current instance, download and install the new version as a separate instance, postpone the notification, or ignore the update entirely.

On Linux, it is not recommended to manually update an existing standalone PhpStorm installation to a newer major version. You should always extract the downloaded tarball to a clean directory. See Standalone installation for details.

If you installed PhpStorm using root privileges, you should use the same level of privileges to update the IDE.

Configure the update policy

To manage the PhpStorm update policy, open Settings/Preferences Ctrl+Alt+S and select Appearance & Behavior | System Settings | Updates .

If the IDE instance is managed by the Toolbox App, these settings will affect only plugin updates.

The Updates page contains the following settings:

Select whether you want PhpStorm to check for updates automatically and choose an update channel.

Early Access Program : Provides all updates, including major version EAP builds and minor version Preview builds. This channel is not recommended for production development.

PhpStorm can be updated only to a minor Preview version, but not to a major EAP build. For example, you can update PhpStorm 2021.1.1 to 2021.1.2 , but not to 2021.2 EAP . The 2021.2 EAP version in this case will be installed as an additional instance.

EAP versions can be updated to both newer EAP and stable PhpStorm versions. If an EAP version is updated to a stable version at some point, the name of the original installation directory does not change.

Beta Releases or Public Previews : Includes stable releases, release candidates, and beta releases. Some updates in this channel may contain minor bugs and feature previews.

This update channel is not currently used in PhpStorm.

Stable Releases : Includes only stable releases that are recommended for production.

You can choose the update channel only if you are using a stable version . For EAP builds, the channel is always set to Early Access Program .

Select whether you want PhpStorm to check for new versions of plugins automatically.

Check for updates immediately.

Alternatively, from the main menu, select Help | Check for Updates on Windows or Linux, or PhpStorm | Check for Updates on macOS.

Show the list of updates that were ignored. These updates will not be suggested until you remove them from the list of ignored updates.

If you remove several updates from the ignored list, only the most recent will be offered for download when you check for updates.

Не обновляется PhpStorm на Ubuntu

Установил на Ubuntu PhpStorm. Пришло сообщение о минорном обновлении. Я нажал «обновить», скачался файл обновления, IDE перезапустилась. и версия осталась той же. PhpStorm был запущен из-под рута.

Смотрел лог, не нашёл в нём строчек, которые говорят о каких-либо ошибках в обновлении.

Как мне всё-таки обновиться?

Вступление

В Ubuntu PhpStorm не обновляется автоматически. Для обновления необходимо сделать примерно те же действия, что и при его установке. Его необходимо скачать, распаковать в новую папку и запускать оттуда.

Для того, чтобы обновления IDE было проще выполнять, я написал github gist. Это файл, который сделает за вас рутинную работу.

Обновление

1. На основании gist’a создайте у себя файл update-phpstorm.sh
2. Сделайте файл исполняемым chmod +x update-phpstorm.sh
3. Запустите обновление sudo ./update-phpstorm.sh

Можете удалить вашу предыдущую версию PhpStorm, если она не находилась в папке /opt/phpstorm . Это понадобится сделать только один раз. В последующие обновления скрипт будет автоматически удалять предыдущую версия из папки /opt/phpstorm .

Пояснения к работе скрипта

1. Скрипт скачает последнюю версию редактора.
2. Удалит старую версию. (Настройки не пропадут, так как они хранятся в домашней директории пользователя)
3. Распакует новую версию
4. Скачает java-агент, который исправляет проблему горячих клавиш при русской раскладке клавиатуры.
5. Обновляет phpstorm64.vmoptions файл, в который прописывает запуск вышеуказанного агента и меняет параметры использования памяти. (Если у Вас не 64-битная ОС, исправьте в скрипте имя файла phpstorm64.vmoptions на phpstorm.vmoptions )
6. Создастся значок программы для запуска.

Запуск

Если Вы используете Unity, то вам остаётся только открыть Dash и в поиске вбить PhpStorm.

Taking control of PhpStorm updates

PhpStorm updates are usually patch-based: they are applied to the existing installation and only require you to restart the IDE. Due to the current limitations of the update system, these patches can only be applied sequentially, on top of one another. For example, if you are using PhpStorm 2017.1.1, you can patch it to 2017.1.2, but not to 2017.1.3.

If you skip or ignore a patch, you will lose the ability to apply the subsequent patches. As a result, when a new PhpStorm version is released, you will see a dialog box prompting you to download and install it:

If this happens, you can restore the ability to apply patched-based updates by manually applying skipped updates one by one.

Follow these steps:

1. Ignore the proposed update by clicking Ignore This Update. This way, you will add the proposed build’s number to the Ignored updates list.
2. Open the PhpStorm Settings / Preferences dialog and navigate to Appearance and Behavior | System Settings | Updates.
3. Click the Check Now button to check for available updates. If you only skipped a single update, the update dialog box will now prompt you to update and restart PhpStorm. Otherwise, keep ignoring the proposed updates until a patch-based update is proposed.
4. Update and restart PhpStorm.
5. Navigate back to the Updates settings page and click the View/edit ignored updates link to open the Ignored updates list.
6. Delete the ignored build’s number from this list and check for available updates once more. The update that you have un-ignored will show up, and you can now apply it as a patch as well. Note that if you have ignored several updates, you need to remove and apply them one by one, starting from the oldest update.

A note for EAP users: you can update PhpStorm only to a minor EAP release, but not to the major one. For example, you can update PhpStorm 2017.2.3 to 2017.2.4 EAP but not to 2017.3 EAP. The 2017.3 EAP version in this case will be installed in parallel with your existing stable installation. EAP versions, however, can be updated to both newer EAP and stable PhpStorm versions.

Maintain different versions of the same tool, install updates, and roll them back if needed. Почему при перезапуске phpStorm (Windows) слетает composer?

При перезапуске phpStorm и открытии проекта перестает работать composer. Приходится каждый раз заново открывать Tools/Composer/Init composer и указывать путь к php.exe и composer.path. Данная проблема наблюдается при открытии лишь некоторых проектов. Подскажите, в чем может быть проблема?

Для того, чтоб работали настройки композера нужно выполнить следующие 2 простых условия.

1. Нужно чтоб был настроен интерпретатор PHP: Languages & Frameworks/PHP Interpreter (выбрать исполняемый файл PHP php.exe) чуть выше PHP language level должен соответствовать версии выбранного интерпретатора.
2. Собственно, настроить сам композер. Для этого:
   • он должен быть доступен в проекте: либо установлен глобально, либо в папке проекта должен находиться файл composer.phar. Для глобальной настройки убедитесь, что команда composer в консоли выдает список команд.
   • указать путь к используемому файлу composer.phar либо глобально доступному, либо локально установленном в проекте.

1. Файл композера недоступен для вашего проекта. Убедитесь, что в папке вашего проекта доступна команда composer для глобальной настройки или php composer.phar для локальной.
2. В настройках PhpStorm указан НЕ тот файл composer.phar, который доступен в вашем проекте.
3. PhpStorm хранит локальные настройки проекта в папке .idea . Убедитесь, что вы не перезаписываете, не удаляете и не изменяете эту папку для вашего проекта при перезагрузке. Убедитесь так же, что путь к проекту указан правильно и не был изменен при перезагрузке.

В конце хочется сказать, что вы очень ограничиваете ответы на ваш вопрос изначально сузив их до той части, которая уже не принесла вам положительного результата. Лучше бы вы спросили, как реализовать именно то, что вам нужно. Например, как установить новый пакет в проект при помощи композера? Возможно, и скорее всего, есть более простые пути решения вашей проблемы, о которых вы просто не знаете.

PhpStorm не запускается

Я только что загрузил PhpStorm 5 на свой совсем свежий ubuntu. При первом запуске установил пару плагинов. Теперь, после установки этих плагинов, PhpStorm больше не запускается. Экран-заставка не отображается. На терминал не выводится сообщение об ошибке:

Что мне делать с этим пьяным моряком? Я не могу найти ни файлов журналов, ни файла конфигурации / каталога в моем домашнем каталоге.

Поскольку я привык к Eclipse, я понятия не имею, где искать след в этом производном IntelliJ .

Некоторые плагины могут вызвать проблемы и помешать запуску IDE, если это произойдет, вам следует удалить каталог, содержащий плагин, вручную. Местоположение этого каталога зависит от системы и продукта, подробности доступны в FAQ.
