Reshade and Red Dead Redemption 2

I would really like to use reshade with RDR2 because of the idiotic washed out default image, but DX12 performance is horrendous. Vulkan runs the game smoothly, but the experimental support is not working at all (i get that it’s experimental). I followed the instructions and installed reshade on the launcher instead of the game executable, but the .bat does not start the launcher unfortunately. Does anyone have any advice/fixes?

for vulkan/reshade you have to start the game from a .bat file but rdr2 needs to be launched from the launcher

i have tried to replace rdr2.exe in the batch with the launcher: it almost works, when you run rdr2 from the launcher the game start with reshade but i’m getting a «video error for social club» and have to close the game

I have tried to change the reshade key from «home» to something else as the «home» button is the one used for social club but it didn’t help

Looks like a pending commit for how Vulkan is loaded might take care of the compatibility issue once the next version rolls out, wonder if that’s from the Rockstar client or something from the game but checking the ReShade Github and the changes since 4.4.2 and pending commits and that sounds like it’s going to work when it’s available.

A change to using the implicit layers for Vulkan via registry same as the overlays for e.g Steam are doing or the display driver and it’s VLK additions.
Added 9 hours ago so the latest WIP over in the depth buffer topic from November 11th probably doesn’t have it unless a newer version is up on the ReShade Discord or something like that though the commit might not be entirely done yet either until it’s merged in and whatever version of ReShade ends up with this change included.

Few other changes to the VLK code too but doesn’t seem to be anything critical since 4.4.2 though if the initialization method is altered maybe compatibility overall will improve.

Red Dead Redemption 2 «Нет размытия, следов TAA»

по пути update_1.rpf/common/data.

Rdr 2 reshade не работает

Reshades are a form of cheating. Not sure if Rockstar bans people for them, but with a reshade you would be able to see other players farther away, you can turn off weather, such as fog, etc. It is a form of cheating. You are essentially changing files. Use it at your own risk. The game’s graphics are really good, not sure why anyone would try to use reshades, more so for online mode.

Everything you just said is a bunch of nonsense. Reshade does none of those things
and it’s been added to GeForce Experience.

No you will not be banned.

Reshade was even recently added to GeForce Experience.

I use reshade for the ray tracing and to get rid of the washed look that every game seems to inherently have.

No problems online.

thank for the replies.
i did a bit of search yesterday on reddit and GTAV forums on steam.
still nothing is clear.
somebody says that he was banned after a year or something, but support didn’t clarify for what.
so i sent a letter to R* support just to be sure.

i’ll update first post if i’ll learn something from them.

What do you mean every game has a washed look? Are you saying that developers have no idea how to make good graphics? lol. Must be your monitor or something

he is right in some way.
for example shadows of mordor 2 uses the same ugly TAA and i cant imagine playing it without reshade.
used reshade sharpening for Vampyr too.

As for RDR2 right now i’m using FXAA, not very happy with it, but TAA is plain ugly if you’re on 1080p. Like i’m on Very low textures.

If you have Geforce, why would you use reshade instead of just using the Geforce option to do the same thing without additional software.

Do you have a cutting edge gaming PC with an Nvidia GPU and an HDR monitor/television? Were you disappointed to find out that enabling HDR makes this game look dark, washed out, and drab?

Worry not, there’s an easy solution for you!

This solution makes use of Nvidia’s «Freestyle» game filter settings to increase the exposure of the rendered graphics, with the end result being both a brighter AND more colorful image. The benefits of this method are two-fold:

A. You don’t have to install any external programs.
B. You don’t have to change any of your monitor’s default settings, which can mess up the appearance of your other games and programs in the process.

The only catch is, of course, that you need an Nvidia graphics card (GPU).

So first, check to make sure your PC is «Freestyle» compatible in the Nvidia GeForce Experience options. (You may have to check «Enable Experimental Features» to get it to work.) If it is, you can proceed with the following steps.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀1. Open RDR2 and enable HDR, if it’s not enabled already.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀2. While in-game, go to the pause menu, then press Alt+F3 and select one of the «Styles» ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀boxes from the sidebar overlay that appears.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀3. Select the «Brightness/Contrast» filter from the «Add Filter» button.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀4. Set all the sliders to 0% (if they’re not at zero already) so you have a baseline.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀5. Now increase the «Exposure» option until the keyboard buttons in the pause menu look ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀white rather than gray. (for me this was at 28%).

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀6. Press Alt+F3 again to close the freestyle menu.

That’s it! Now you’ll suddenly notice that the game is not only brighter, but a lot more colorful as well.

For an even nicer look, I also set «Contrast» to 10% and «Shadows» to 30%; this will make dark spots (such as shadows and ambient occlusion) stand out more against direct light.

optionally, you can also add a «Color» filter with «Tint Color» set to 81%, «Tint Intensity» at 14%, and «Temperature» and «Vibrance» both at 0%. This will give the game a very slight yellowish hue for more sunny sunlight.

If this makes the colors of the game too vivid for your tastes, you can move the «Vibrance» slider (under the «Color» filter) to the left to desaturate things a bit. I find that moving it to around -17.6 offers a much more «cinematic» palette.

Thanks for reading, I hope this helped someone!
